rodeo clown is a book project published by 777 press in an edition of 200 copies in January 2025. This collection spans 48 poems and 24 images engaging in themes of solitude, becoming, inherited environment, existential surrender and western mythology. Playing with the poetic combination of text and image, the landscape of the Great Plains provides the backdrop for the project. This region is at the heart of the country and the veins of its roads provide an unending maze of decisions to be made in the open horizon. The fragmented structure of the project mimics these intersections and the chaotic introspection often invoked by them. Characters find themselves striving for independence with a doomed idealism wandering the indifferent vast landscape. The voice oscillates between sardonic humor and aching vulnerability. This is an ode to unfulfilled longing that defines both the individual and a part of the collective american psyche.
